ICMSA to meet Govt over falling farm incomes
The ICMSA is due to temporarily halt its week-long protest outside Government buildings this afternoon to enter talks with officials from the Department of Agriculture.
The talks will focus on the issue of falling farm incomes and measures demanded by farm leaders to address the crisis.
Farmers are demanding a reversal of recent agriculture-related cutbacks and tax increases, as well as more state investment in agriculture and an action plan to help improve incomes.
ICMSA president Pat O'Rourke said the Government and the Taoiseach should show the same level of commitment to the agriculture sector as they have shown in recent days to the social partnership process.
