The British government is sticking with plans to hold Assembly elections in Northern Ireland in May, it was claimed today.

Democratic Unionist leader the Reverend Ian Paisley declared after a meeting with the Northern Ireland Secretary Paul Murphy at Stormont that the government was clear about its intentions to hold elections even if devolution could not be restored.
