Cork mother will travel to UK for transplant

Doctors have confirmed that a critically ill Cork mother will travel to London for her third life saving liver transplant.

It was feared that 32-year old Sylvia O'Leary from Ballincollig, who has been on life support for the past week, was too critical to travel, but a spokesperson for the Southern Health Board says the transfer will go ahead.

Mrs O'Leary will travel by air ambulance with her husband Des to Kings College Hospital in London later today.

Their two children aged 13 and 6 will remain at home. Mrs O'Leary is currently being treated for liver failure at University College Hospital in Cork.

She contracted Hepatitis C in 1990 when she was given contaminated blood product during her first liver transplant.
