Gardai close to identifying road victim

Gardai in Co Monaghan have said they believe they're close to identifying a pedestrian who was killed in a road accident this morning.

The young man, who is thought to be in his twenties, was struck by a car on the N2 at Aghavilla, near Carrickmacross.

The two occupants of the car were treated for shock following the accident, which occurred around 3.45am this morning.

The dead man is not believed to be a local.
