Report into baby's death to be published today

The report into the death of a baby who was born prematurely after her mother was denied treatment in Monaghan Hospital is expected to be published later today.

The report, which was given to Health Minister Michéal Martin earlier this week, will first be given to the Livingstone family, who have said they hold Mr Martin personally responsible for the tragedy.

Denise Livingstone's baby, Bronagh, died in Cavan Hospital after being born in an ambulance en route to the hospital. The mother had first travelled to Monaghan Hospital, but was refused treatment because maternity services were removed from the hospital as part of the Government's centralisation plans.

The Livingstone's have already said that they do not want the staff at Monaghan to be used as scapegoats.

Mr Martin has yet to make a detailed comment on the report, but said he is confident that it will provide the answers the Livingstone's are seeking. He has also promised to undertake any action needed to prevent a repeat of the incident.
