The British government has made a firm commitment to strengthening the powers of the Police Ombudsman in the North.

Speaking following a meeting with the Northern Secretary, Paul Murphy, the SDLP leader Mark Durkan said proposals published by the British government a fortnight ago did not guarantee the ombudsman all the information it required.
