Teachers disagree with supervision deal

Attempts to reach a solution over supervision in Irish schools will be made by the Government and teacher unions this week.

Recently, a solution was reached over the supervision problem.

However, now the ASTI say that a reinterpretation of the scheme has made extra demands on teachers.

Teachers had sealed an agreement making themselves available for 37 hours of supervision and substitution a year in return for payment of €1,400.

However, the ASTI insist that if their members are not needed for all of those hours, they should still be paid in full under the agreement.

It is now understood that talks will take place between the Department of Education, school managers and the ASTI over the coming days.
