EU Commission proposes sharp cuts in fishing quotas

The European Commission today officially adopted a proposal for sharp cuts in quotas for cod and several other threatened fish species in certain EU fishing zones.

The proposal, along with a plan for replenishing stocks of fish facing the greatest threat of extinction, is to be presented to the EU's agriculture and fisheries ministers here on Monday.
