FG: Electronic voting report must be made public

Fine Gael has demanded the Government disclose the details of a report submitted to the Department of the Environment, which showed that the electronic voting system used in the Nice referendum, was not fool-proof.

The Zerflow Report, which was commissioned by the Department, stated that it is possible to tamper with the current technology.

Fine Gael's Bernard Allen said Environment Minister Martin Cullen, must make the report public.

He said: "Any question marks over the conducting of our democratic system and the conducting of elections must be taken seriously and nothing short of a full statement from the Minister on this issue will be unsatisfactory.

"This matter must be thoroughly investigated by the Oireachtas Committee by asking the Minister and the report's authors to come before the Committee."
