Garda saves drowning woman
A garda has saved a woman from drowning in the River Lee in Cork City this morning.
The woman, who is believed to be in her 40s, went into the river at Fr Matthew Quay at around 7am.
A garda jumped in and pulled her to safety. Both were taken to the South Infirmary Hospital for medical checks.
Meanwhile, the Irish Water Safety organisation is to honour student Garda Colm Finnerty, from Carrick-on-Shannon who saved three people from the River Liffey in Dublin in the early hours of yesterday morning.
The 23-year-old jumped into the river to save two men who were in difficulty, and then saved a third man who had jumped into the water to assist him.
