Hauliers appalled at motor tax rise

The Road Haulage Association says it is appalled at the increase in motor tax.

The group says that coming on top of the diesel price hike and the spiralling cost of insurance, it's a massive blow to truckers.

Jimmy Quinn of the IRHA says its been a bad year.

"It's after coming at a very bad time we've had a horrible twelve months in terms of insurance costs going up, traffic congestion," he said.

"Diesel has already crept up in price steadily over the last twelve months, on top of it the rise in the road tax and labour isn't getting any cheaper.

"It's a mean, mean trade to be in. There is not much money in it at the best of times and we think it's unfair that we are being picked on."
