Chinese plead guilty to extortion charges

Four Chinese nationals have pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to robbery, false imprisonment and extortion charges against fellow countrymen.

Ji Guang, Hatio Yin, Jin Nan and Wang Yue Ning, all with addresses at Venetian Hall, Howth Road, Raheny admitted robbing a Chinese passport and a Garda National Immigration Bureau certificate of registration at Monkstown Valley between the hours of 10pm on March 1 and 6am on March 3, 2002.

All four also pleading guilty to false imprisonment and making an unwarranted demand for €3,800 with menaces on the same dates.

Ms Una McGuirk BL, prosecuting, said she required victim impact reports on three victims and applied to have the case adjourned until after Christmas.

Counsel for Ning asked Judge Des Hogan if he would consider dealing with his client before Christmas because his girlfriend in China was expecting a baby in early February and no doubt a deportation order, which could take three weeks to come through, would follow the sentence.

Judge Hogan said the court list couldn't facilitate it and adjourned the case of all four until January 27, 2003.
