Extra gardai deployed as Operation Freeflow begins

110 extra gardai are being deployed on Dublin streets today, as part of "Operation Freeflow".

The plan, which aims to control traffic congestion in the capital during the festive season, comes into effect from today until early January.

120 traffic black-spots have been identified in the greater Dublin area, with over 100 extra gardai drafted in to keep the city moving.

"Operation Freeflow" will be enforced by 134 Garda foot patrols, 54 motorcycles and 10 mobile patrols on the ground, along with Garda tow-wagons, and the Garda pedal cycle unit.

The majority of Luas works and all existing roadworks on the main routes in the city will be cleared for the Christmas period. Late night DART and Christmas nitelinks services will also be put in place.
