Dáil to debate Morris extension motion

The Dail will today begin debating a motion calling on the Government to seek an extension of the terms of reference of the Morris Tribunal.

The Labour Party motion calls on the Fianna Fail-Progressive Democrats coalition to seek the consent of tribunal chairman Justice Morris for a widening of the terms of the inquiry.

The motion follows a warning from the McBrearty family that it will not co-operate with the investigation into alleged garda corruption in Co Donegal in its current form.

The Labour motion also calls on the Government to enter negotiations with the McBrearty family on acceptable arrangements to allow them to be legally represented for the duration of the tribunal.
