The Irish Seal Sanctuary are warning that if an enviromental disaster occurred in Irish waters, the country would not be prepared.

The warning comes after the oil ship, the Prestige, sank off the coast of Spain last week.

Chairman of the non-governmental organisation Terry Flanagan says there are only 20 people here trained to deal with such a disaster.

The enviromental and wildlife group are now calling for the establishment of a permanent marine conservation centre in Ireland in case a large scale pollution disaster occurred and want the Government to help fund such as venture.
