Anti-cutbacks protest called for budget day
An alliance of left-wing TDs, community groups and trade unions has called a demonstration outside the Dail for budget day to protest at Government cutbacks.
The TDs have called on the public to support the protest on December 4.
The rally will begin at the Central Bank before moving to the Dail at 1pm.
Socialist Party TD Joe Higgins said: "We see this as the beginning of what will be an ongoing campaign in many communities and trade unions and indeed among many groups in society and we see it as an encouragement to others to show their people power in opposition to this Government of liars and cheats."
Meanwhile, independent TD Seamus Healy said the cuts are unnecessary and a calculated decision by the Fianna Fail-Progressive Democrats coalition to benefit the wealthy.
"Ordinary people in communities right throughout the country pay for the huge monies that have been given to super-rich people over the last five budgets," he said.
