Flood: Cosgrave Jnr claims payments were for election purposes

The Flood tribunal has been told that payments to former TD Liam Cosgrave Junior from Frank Dunlop were for election purposes only and not for re-zoning motions.

The tribunal has begun a new phase to establish who benefited from the rezoning of land at Jackson Way in Carrickmines in Co Dublin.

Before the tribunal got underway however legal counsel for Cosgrave made an application seeking copies of every detail given to the tribunal by Frank Dunlop.

Michael O'Higgins, counsel for Cosgrave, said his client received €2000 in 1991, €5000 in 1992, and €1000 in 1993. These payments coincided with the local, general and Seanad elections respectively and were made 4 years before Jackson Way was re-zoned.

The application for Frank Dunlop's details are continuing.
