Attempted murder trial of Limerick man adjourned

A 25 year-old labourer today denied an attempt on another man's life in a shooting in Limerick city in 1998.

At the Central Criminal Court, Mr David McCarthy, of O'Callaghan Ave, Kileely, Limerick pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder of Mr Patrick McNamara (aged 47) of Cosgrove Park, Moyross, Limerick on June 11, 1998 at Craeval Park, Moyross in Limerick.

He also pleaded not guilty to two charges of intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to Mr McNamara and to engaging in conduct which created a risk of death or serious harm to Mr McNamara.

He further denied the unlawful possession of a double barrel sawn-off shot gun and possession of

the shotgun with intent to endanger life on the same date.

A jury of six men and six women were sworn in to hear the trial.

But after the lunch adjournment, Mr Justice Paul Carney said that a problem had arisen with two of the jurors.

He told counsel that a new jury panel was required and he adjourned the case until Tuesday, December 3.
