British police arrest man in Finucane probe

British police investigating the 1989 murder of Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane have arrested a 39-year-old man in west Belfast.

A spokesman for the Stevens Inquiry said the man is being questioned about conspiracy to murder.

Mr Finucane was shot dead in front of his wife and family in his north Belfast home in February 1989.

The Stevens Inquiry was established to investigate long-running allegations that the British security services colluded with the loyalist paramilitaries who carried out the killing.

Yesterday, the Stevens Inquiry also arrested another man in connection with the murder of a Protestant student on a building site in north Belfast in 1987.

Adam Lambert was shot dead by the UDA after being mistaken for a Catholic. The man arrested in connection with the killing was released without charge last night.
