McBrearty vows not to co-operate with Morris

Frank McBrearty Jnr, one of several people who have accused Co Donegal gardai of harassment, has vowed not to co-operate with the Morris Tribunal unless its terms of reference are widened.

The tribunal was established to investigate alleged corruption in Donegal after Mr McBrearty and others accused gardai of trying to frame them for the murder of a local cattle dealer whose body was found in 1996.

The McBrearty family, who own a pub in Raphoe, also said they were harassed for years by a number of gardai, including having more than 100 summonses served against them, only for the charges to be later dropped.

The McBreartys are currently refusing to co-operate with the Morris Tribunal because of its limited terms of reference.

Frank McBrearty Jnr said he has no intention of co-operating after seeing how haemophiliacs were treated by the Lindsay Tribunal, which was established to investigate the infection of Irish people with HIV and Hepatitis C through contaminated products provided by the Irish Blood Transfusion Service.

Mr McBrearty also promised to press ahead with judicial review proceedings into allegations that five gardai committed perjury, despite being asked by the State to adjourn the cases until after the Morris Tribunal is completed.
