SIPTU call for Workers Charter

SIPTU has called on employers to co-operate with the establishment of a Worker's Charter to secure best practice in the areas of pay, pensions, training and working conditions.

Speaking at the TEEU Biennial Conference in Galway today, SIPTU presidents Des Geraghty told delegates that regardless of whether a new National Pay Agreement is reached, unions will be focusing on the improvement of the workplace in terms of gender equality and fairness.

SIPTU and the TEEU have joined forces to form the Trade Union Federation in a new style co-operation which will be an organising and campaigning entity committed to increasing the level of union involvement in all employment sectors.

Mr Geraghty said a priority of the Federation will be the issue of the legal right to representation and collective bargaining which is guaranteed in the European Charter of Human Rights but not yet recognised here in Ireland.
