Taoiseach to comment on alleged Real IRA talks
The Taoiseach is expected to make a statement in the Dail today about allegations that the Government held secret talks with the Real IRA.
Bertie Ahern denies there was any contact with the group in the aftermath of the Omagh bombing, as claimed by weekend newspapers.
The reports claimed that Martin Manseagh, now a Fianna Fail Senator, and formerly the Taoiseach's special advisor on the North, organised secret talks about a ceasefire with the Real IRA.
It is claimed this was done using Fr Alex Reid, a priest in Belfast, as a liaison with the dissident group.
Mr Ahern had already denied there was any contact with the Real IRA.
He will be questioned by opposition parties once more today after the Dail returns after its Halloween break.
