Period of detention extended for two Limerick men

Two Irish men arrested in connection with a €25m drugs seizure in Belgium in August have had their period of detention extended.

The men, both from Limerick, were detained under drug trafficking legislation on Saturday and were taken to Carrickmacross Garda station for questioning.

At a special sitting of Drogheda District Court, Judge Flann Brennan agreed to a garda application to extend their period of detention for a further 72 hours. The court heard that gardai believe the two, who are in their 30s, were involved in attempting to import the drugs to Ireland.
