Department reject BSE claim

The Department of Agriculture and Food today rejected as entirely without foundation suggestions from a representative of An Taisce that environmental laws were breached during disposal of BSE-positive carcasses.

The Department said the handling of all aspects of BSE fully accords with EU and national legislation.

Disposal of carcasses is currently the subject of ongoing scrutiny from various perspectives by independent bodies such as the EU's Food and Veterinary Office, the Food Safety Authority of Ireland and others.
