The captain of a British-registered trawler is due in court in Co Cork today after his vessel was detained yesterday for alleged illegal fishing.

The captain of a British-registered trawler is due in court in Co Cork today after his vessel was detained yesterday for alleged illegal fishing.

The Michel was detained by the LE Aisling after allegedly operating within the confines of a restricted area close to Fastnet Rock.

It was detained on suspicion of misusing small nets and logbook infringements.

The Michel had around two tonnes of various fish on board at the time.
