Govt urged to increase social spending

A group representing Irish community organisations has urged the Government to increase spending on social projects, to improve childcare facilities and to reform the health service.

A group representing Irish community organisations has urged the Government to increase spending on social projects, to improve childcare facilities and to reform the health service.

The Community Platform said these commitments should be included in any successor to the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness.

Spokeswoman Frances Byrne said the demands are entirely reasonable, despite the recent economic downturn.
