Armed gang targets elderly Co Tyrone couple

Police in the North are today searching for an armed gang who locked an elderly couple in their home for more than 14 hours without heat or electricity.

The gang of eight men forced their way into the couple's farmhouse in Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone, at around 2am yesterday.

The elderly man was threatened at knifepoint before the house in the Caledon Road area was ransacked.

The gang then cut off the electricity and locked the couple in the house before escaping with a small amount of cash.

A nephew of the couple who called to the house later found them in a traumatised state.

Detectives have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
