New missing persons helpline launched
A new helpline is being set up to provide information and support to the families of missing persons.
Around 1,800 people are reported missing in Ireland each year.
The pilot project is being run by Victim Support, with funding from the Department of Justice.
Cormac Cremin, whose brother went missing almost two years ago, said that the service is badly needed.
"Families or friends of missing persons can ring in, or missing persons themselves can ring this number and make contact if they wish through the confidential helpline. From that side of it, it's fantastic to see it in place. It was never there for us two years ago, unfortunately," he said.
