Cox says result is wonderful moment

The President of the European Parliament says that the "yes" result of the Nice Treaty is a relief as a result for the ordinary Irish person.

Mr Cox has said that it is a wonderful moment.

"I have said this the whole afternoon now that while there is rain outside, there is sun inside. We've just sent such a powerful message across the continent of Europe to the leaders of the 15 member states."

He maintained that the message had been sent out to the other nations seeking to enter the EU. He insists that the main message from Ireland now is enlargement not egotism.
