Harney: 'Liquidator may rescue part of IFI'

The Tanaiste, Mary Harney, has said the liquidator appointed to Irish Fertiliser Industries might still decide to save part of the company from collapse.

The Tanaiste, Mary Harney, has said the liquidator appointed to Irish Fertiliser Industries might still decide to save part of the company from collapse.

Speaking as she entered a meeting with IFI union representatives, Ms Harney also promised that FAS would provide training to any IFI workers who wish to find alternative employment.

Workers in Arklow, Cork and Belfast are set to lose their jobs following the decision to appoint a liquidator to the semi-state company, which has been struggling to remain viable for some time.
