Alcohol study highlights need for education

A new global study conducted by the International Centre for Alcohol Policies has highlighted the need for increased education about alcohol as a way of reducing the number of drink related problems.

Details of the study, released at the National College of Ireland today, claim that the drinks industry must do more to engage in what it calls constructive dialogue with those who make alcohol policy.

President of the National College of Ireland Joyce O'Connor says all sectors in society have a role to play in developing a responsible attitude to drink.

"What we're saying is let's look at the stakeholders, at what Government can do, but also what can we as ordinary individuals do to move things forward and to make the use of alcohol one where the level of problems do not escalate as they have."
