Reid set to announce Executive suspension

Northern Secretary John Reid is this morning expected to formally announce the suspension of the power-sharing Executive and the re-imposition of direct rule from London.

The suspension, which will most likely take effect from midnight, will be the fourth in as many years and marks the end of yet another attempt to set up a stable government involving unionists and nationalists.
