IGB workers reject latest redundancy deal
The former staff of the Irish Glass Bottle plant in Ringsend, Dublin, have rejected a Labour Court redundancy recommendation by 120 votes to 82.
The recommendation called for all the laid-off workers to be given five weeks pay per year of service, but this would be capped at €42,500, or 15 months’ pay.
The deal, which was negotiated at the Labour Court last week, would have vastly benefited younger workers and those with less service, while long-term employees would have lost out due to the capping arrangement.
