ATGWU launches ‘No to Nice’ campaign

A ‘Yes to Nice’ vote will lead to widespread privatisation. That is the view of the ATGWU trade union, which is launching its ‘No to Nice’ campaign today.

The union is not supporting ICTU’s call for ratification of the treaty.

Spokesperson Mick O’Reilly says Nice is bad news for a small state like Ireland.

"We think this treaty is bad for workers. We think this treaty would facilitate major corporations in Europe and in America who believe that our health service, our education service are in effect businesses and not public services," he said.

"We think it can lead to very massive privatisation, which will not be controlled by the Irish Government."
