Cork gardai launch murder inquiry after shooting

Gardaí in Cork have launched a murder inquiry after a man was shot dead on the city’s northside overnight.

The victim, in his 20s, received a shotgun wound to the chest.

It is believed the shooting happened following a row outside a chip shop in Gurranebraher on Cork's north side.

A disturbance was reported sometime around midnight and shortly afterwards a man in his 20s was shot.

An ambulance was called to the scene and the injured man was rushed to Cork University Hospital but died a short time later.

The shooting happened beside a number of shops and businesses and several streets have been closed off this morning in order to preserve the scene for a Garda forensic examination.

Gardaí have launched a murder inquiry and are appealing for witnesses to the attack.
