Evidence links chef to Castlereagh break-in
Police in the North have reportedly secured forensic evidence linking a former chef at Castlereagh barracks in Belfast with a daring robbery at the facility last March.
The evidence, which consists of fibres, allegedly links American citizen Larry Zaitschek to the theft of sensitive security documents from the heavily fortified complex.
Police have continued to blame the IRA for the raid, which targeted the Special Branch office in Castlereagh.
The IRA has vehemently denied any involvement, alleging that it was carried out by some arm of the British intelligence services.
Mr Zaitschek, who left his job in the kitchens in Castlereagh a number of weeks before the robbery and returned to the United States shortly after the break-in, has also denied involvement.
However, police have sent their evidence against him to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who will decide whether to seek the former chef’s extradition.
