Adams accused of McConville murder

The Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams maintains that he did not sanction the killing and secret burial of Jean McConville.

The allegations have arisen in a new book about the IRA.

Mrs McConville, a mother of ten, disappeared from her home in 1972.

Extensive searches at the Templetown beach in Co Louth three years ago failed to find any traces of her remains.

The new book, written by Ed Maloney, says that Mr Adams was the leader of the IRA unit that committed the abduction and subsequent murder of the woman.

Mr Adams has claimed that he had nothing to do with her abduction.
