The President of the European Parliament, Pat Cox, has appealed people not to register dissatisfaction with the Government by voting 'No' to the Nice Treaty.

The President of the European Parliament, Pat Cox, has appealed people not to register dissatisfaction with the Government by voting 'No' to the Nice Treaty.

He urged voters not to put short term domestic considerations ahead of Ireland's long-term strategic interests in Europe.

He said the critical long-term goal was keeping Ireland in the "first division of decision-making in Europe".

"Don't cut off your nose to spite your face," pleaded Mr Cox.
