SF launches campaign against Nice Treaty
Sinn Fein has launched its campaign for a no vote in the forthcoming re-run of the Nice Treaty referendum.
Speaking at the launch, party leader Gerry Adams said ratification of the controversial treaty will undermine Ireland’s right to control its own affairs and will oblige the country to participate in an EU army.
Mr Adams also said the decision to ignore last year’s referendum, when 54% of voters rejected Nice, is an affront to democracy.
“No-one has given me, in all of the debate over the last couple of months, a good reason why there’s been a replay of this referendum,” he said.
“The people decided the last time around – that is what should be informing and instructing the Government.”
