Ireland secured an increased quota for Celtic Sea herring at a meeting of European marine ministers in Brussels today.

The ministers agreed to increase the overall EU quota from 8,000 to 13,000 tonnes and, as Ireland currently accounts for almost 90% of the EU’s Celtic Sea herring catch, Irish fishermen will benefit most from the increase.
