A Donegal man has died in Spain while trying to save his little boy.

A Donegal man has died in Spain while trying to save his little boy.

David Irwin from Lenin view in Donegal drowned in a swimming accident.

The man was on the beach with his wife and four children.

One of his sons got into difficulty while playing on an inflatable bed.

Mr Irwin who was in his thirties got into difficulty himself when he went to help his son.

The boy made it safely to shore.

The accident occurred at around 3pm Irish time this afternoon.

Arrangements are now being made to bring his body home.
