Ahern backs Trimble

Taoiseach Bertie Ahern says it would be detrimental to the North's peace process if David Trimble were to be replaced as leader of the UUP.

Mr Ahern was speaking ahead of this weekend's crucial meeting of the UUP's 860-member ruling council, where Mr Trimble's pro-agreement stance will be challenged.
