A new British government body aimed at fighting crime in Northern Ireland will tackle “Wild West behaviour” on the province’s streets, Ulster Secretary John Reid vowed today.

As hardline unionists reacted sceptically to the formation of the Law and Order Action Group, which will bring Dr Reid together with Northern Ireland’s Chief Constable and other Northern Ireland state departments, the Secretary of State said the new body would not be merely producing reports.
