An animal health group are opposing plans by the European Commission to ban farmers from using non-prescription medicines on their food-producing animals.

An animal health group are opposing plans by the European Commission to ban farmers from using non-prescription medicines on their food-producing animals.

Chairman of the Animal and Plant Health Association, Declan O’Brien, is holding a conference to debate the issue.

He says the Commission shouldn’t restrict farmers’ work.

“Farmers are perfectly capable of using medicines such as vaccines without the necessity and cost of having veterinary involvement,” he said.
