The Government was today accused of ignoring the wishes of the Irish people by calling a second referendum on the expansion of the European Union.

Former Attorney General John Rogers said Taoiseach Bertie Ahern and Foreign Affairs Minister Brian Cowen had ignored the serious reservations expressed about the Nice Treaty in last year’s referendum campaign.
