WHC criticises Govt plan for women’s health
A new report by the Women's Health Council has criticised the Government's plan for women's health.
The Council says the plan has a lack of clearly identified targets.
Director of the Council, General Luddy, says Irish women still have one of the highest breast cancer rates in Europe.
"Denmark is the highest and we are the second highest in the EU for women who are dying of breast cancer. Obviously that is not a situation we want to continue.
"Ireland also has a high level of heart disease. Irish women also contract most cancers than their European counterparts and we need to look at it in a co-ordinated manner so that is it done in the eastern region but not done in the southern region."
