Castletown wins Tidy Towns competition

Castletown has been named Ireland’s Tidiest Town for 2002.

The Co Laois hamlet, which won the Tidiest Village award last year, was chosen from around 700 entries.

It is the first time it won the overall award since the Tidy Towns competition began in 1957.

Elsewhere, Lismore, Co Waterford won this year’s Tidiest Small Town award, while Ennis in Co Clare won the Tidiest Large Town award for the second consecutive year.
