New bishop to be assigned to Kildare
The Catholic diocese of Kildare and Leighlin is to get a new bishop today.
Auxiliary bishop of Dublin, the most Reverend James Moriarty, will be installed at a ceremony in the cathedral of the assumption, in Carlow this afternoon.
The Catholic primate of Ireland, Archbishop Sean Brady, Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto, as well as Cardinal’s Desmond Connell, Cathal Daly and the apostolic Nuncio will attend the service.
Bishop Moriarty takes over from Dr Laurence Ryan who resigned last year.
