Insurance problems threaten survival of thatched cottages

One of the most traditional images of Irish culture, the thatched cottage, could be soon be confined to history due to a lack of insurance cover.

Such cottages have been a central feature of rural Ireland since the late 18th century, but their survival is now threatened by insurance firms’ refusal to provide cover.
