Job loss fears end at Tara Mines
Tara Mines has announced it is to restart production next month.
The country’s leading zinc producer is set to re-open, ending fears of hundreds of job losses.
The plant, based in Navan, Co Meath, suspended operations last year due to low zinc prices and high production costs.
It had postponed a full return in June, but its Finnish parent company has sent 540 of the 670 workforce back to work.
The remaining numbers will return shortly despite the fact that zinc prices on world markets are relatively unchanged since last year.
